day 2 of chemo cycleViews: 42

Step one: gotta learn to speak the cancer language. Day one of the chemo cycle is the day of chemo, so day 2 (today) is day 2 of the cycle. This morning (Happy Birthday Dan!)I feel . . . good! I don’t know what the rest of the day will bring, so I’m trying to relish this moment of apparent homeostasis. Is it the steroids? Some say they feel good on day 2 (refer to definition above) and then feel sick on days 3 and 4, after the steroids wear off. We shall see.

Day one was strange. First of all, I was already under the effect of aforementioned steroids, and while I didn’t feel like an angry panther (inside joke), I was quite emotional and crying over this and that. I showed up right on time for day 2 of radiation, where they pride themselves SO much on their on time record, and they kept me waiting and waiting. Finally the tech came and said she didn’t know I was there—had I checked in? Anyway, I got out of there late and was running (next door)to be on time for my 3pm chemo appt.

The running was certainly for naught as I ended up waiting (drum roll) 2 hours for chemo. By the end of the delay, of course, I was a puddle of steroidal tears. I knew that there had been mix ups with my meds (one of the stated reasons for waiting) and I was afraid they would give me the wrong meds and that they would deliver them too fast since the night chemo nurse would have to stay late (due to the late start). What I didn’t realize is that the nurse (Mike—he’s the greatest and I like to call him Mr. Super Happy Nurse) probably likes a little overtime pay, and it was the unit manager who wanted things to move along (budget worries). Since we finished at 10 and Mike normally closes up at 830, I feel confident thinking that he didn’t rush anything, and hope that he did, indeed, make a little overtime.

Came home from day one to find some beautiful organic flowers sent by my sister-in-law Donna. She is my cancer angel. I hate that we live so far apart, but I am so grateful for our relationship.

1037 pm now—Dan had a really nice birthday dinner thrown by our daughter Ariella. She decorated beautifully and we had a deluxe boat of sushi. I was able to eat even though things started to get a little rocky as evening wore on. Our grandson was acting cute and cuddly and adorable. Right now I’m having a whopping case of acid indigestion and a swollen abdomen, plus a bit of a head ache. And the adventure goes on . . .
