This is an image of my radiation plan. This is a slice of my body, looking up from the T3 vertebra. The blue rays are the five angles that they are zapping me from, all focused on the little bad ass lymph node, directly in front of T3. This is the only known location of cancer in my body. If you are so inclined as to send me some prayer or just well wishes, here’s where to send the good vibes.
The node is a precaval lymph node, located just in front of T3, where it has wrapped itself around the vena cava (which is why it is inoperable). It is in the back, near the spine (and the upper pole of the kidneys), but from the front, the spot is about 2 inches above the navel, where the nice folks at radiation have given me a tiny little tattoo.

Hi, some of my classmates and I are doing a science project regarding the effects of radiation therapy on the human body and which methods are most convenient/effective. If you wouldn’t mind, I would really appreciate it if you could answer a few questions to help us understand the process for the patients so that we can also explain the physics behind the actual radiation for our presentation to raise awareness about cancer and its treatments. Thank you so much!
