radiation DONEViews: 97

Just in time for Thanksgiving, radiation is done, done, DONE. I’ve had 30 treatments and now it is OVER.

In honor of this momentous event we are going to have a big family feast tomorrow and all express our gratitude. In fact, the whole country is celebrating alongside.

I was supposed to have my last treatment on Monday, after the four day break. When the Dr. Toonkel (the rad/onc) realized this, he said I could instead have two treatments today. So I went there at 8am and then again at 2pm. Nothing like finishing with a bang.

BTW, my darling husband Daniel accompanied me to 30 out of 30 radiation treatments. Dan is very impressive, isn’t he?

I’m in such a happy and festive mood that I’m ignoring the fact that I have again dipped to my nadir and a serious dose of neutropenia. Actually, that was on Monday and today I already feel that my white blood cells are on the rise.

Tomorrow will be the first time in some decades that I will not be hosting Thanksgiving at my house. We are all making Thanksgiving dishes and will meet at Ariella and Jeff’s house for dinner. I am making cranberry relish and cornbread stuffing (yes, of course, organic). Dan will create his sweet potato casserole. Ariella will make salad and vegetables. Jeff is doing mashed potatoes. Orion is doing the tofurky (that’s vegetarian turkey—another tradition of multiple decades). Barbara is baking an apple pie. I am thrilled to the gills about every detail.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL!

Jane – That is EXCELLENT news that you are done with radiation. No better way to celebrate than Thanksgiving dinner with your family. Your husband is a rock star too; you are very lucky to have such wonderful support. Happy Turkey Day!
