Dan and I went to the Head and Neck Conference today and we were accompanied by our friend Pam, who is a radiologist and professor at UM/Sylvester/Jackson. She came along to be our interpreter, which is a function greatly needed when facing a room full of doctors. Her presence was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO greatly appreciated.
I came into the room and there was about 25 doctors in there. A teeny bit intimidating! Three of the doctors palpated my neck and jaw and then they told me I could leave while the doctor club discussed their thoughts on my situation. Lucky for me our very good friend Pam is a member of the club, so she was allowed to stay and put her two cents in.
After reviewing my pet/cat images and history, the general concensus of the group was that they are pretty sure I have a benign parotid tumor (that’s good news!) but given my recent history of both having cancer and doctors making all kinds of mistakes, they want me to have an ultrasound guided biopsy, just to be sure.
More good news—Pam will do the biopsy tomorrow morning at 8am, and I will get fast turn around time on the results as she will personally deliver the sample to her friend in pathology at Sylvester.
At this point I’m allowing myself the luxury of expecting good news. I’ll write again when I get the path report.
